I enjoyed reading your thoughts and experiences on Ramallah. Thank you.
I'm an elementary teacher in the states and considering an opportunity to teach in Ramallah. Do you have any advice or insight that may also help as I am in this process of discernment?

Thanks again!

It's so great reading your reflections of Ramallah. With each visit, I fell in love with the city a little more. There is really something special about it. At the same time, you also always remember in the back of your mind that you're sort of living in Never Never Land in Palestine. Ramallah is everything amazing about Palestine and Palestinians, but it's also often easy to forget the rest of Palestine in Ramallah. When I was there, a friend described living in Ramalllah as "living in a five star occupation."

Keep up with the blog - it's been great to read.

There's something deeply troubling about the way even those Palestinians "who believe in violence" praised the boy's parents' actions. For all we know, the Israeli civilians who received the organs are just as opposed to Israeli government policy as are the Palestinians. But the way this Palestinian resistance member puts it, it's as if simply being Israeli is grounds to assume that one would "kill a Palestinian," if the Palestinian had not first saved one's life. This kind of racist generalization that is the greatest enemy to peace.

I am not in the least surprised that a Palestinian family would donate their child's organs to save others. Universal humanity plays a large part in Palestinian culture. Palestinian warmth, hospitality and tolerence are legendary. They have nothing to prove to the world, they are part of it. It is sad to know that the West sees this as a weekness and treats Palestinians as insignificant and disposable. There is more in success than power and money. A success for Palestinians is a success for human values.

What an amazing story of the shared human condition and how true healing and peace can come through forgiveness. This really shows how it is not about "us and them" but about "US... period"! And that peace will ONLY come through that shared understanding and consideration (love) for our fellow beings ("US" collectively)! Wow ... thanks for sharing this!!
